COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Property taxes help fund each city's school district and local operations.

But as home prices continue to rise, these taxes can place a heavy burden on homeowners.

At a town hall on Saturday, panelists addressed a key question: could property taxes be eliminated?"The expenses aren't going away. They're just going to be collected in a different manner. And without more transparency on how that would work, it's frightening. That kind of change without more details would scare me. I would be very concerned," said Lloyd Davis, chair of the College Station Association of Neighborhoods.
