(WWBT/Gray News) - A high school student suffered life-threatening brain injuries after being assaulted by another student at school, according to his family.

Irvin E. Rodriguez Gaitan's family said he is out of the hospital and recovering at home after being severely injured during an altercation at Meadowbrook High School."After everything he has been through, seeing him come home means more to our family than words can express," Irvin's brother Kevin Rodriguez said.

Irvin's family said they are "going through an incredibly difficult and unexpected time," and their focus right now is Irvin's recovery.
