Judge Kelley Kimble sentenced John Linzie Wood of Camp Wood to 35 years in prison for possession of a controlled substance on Aug. 31, 15 years less than prosecutors' recommendation.

The 38th Judicial District attorney's office said the case began when a Real County sheriff's deputy approached Wood on Oct. 23, 2023, and smelled marijuana.

Wood admitted to having the drug in his vehicle.
