WACO, Texas (KWTX/AP) - Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in Waco on Monday announced Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin assured him there will be "no construction of any type of barrier at Big Bend National Park." Abbott said he spoke with Mullin over the weekend and credited his conversation for a pause in any construction at the national park in West Texas.
"He (Mullin) committed to me - they will not be building a wall or a fence in Big Bend National Park," Abbott said.
The governor said the use of drones and fiber optics will help secure that remote region of Texas without the need for border barriers.
