WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The Waco City Council has officially voted to annex and zone more than 153 acres of land in the Chalk Bluff area, clearing the way for a potential future wastewater treatment plant despite mounting concerns from neighbors along the Brazos River.

The council's vote on Tuesday night approved the annexation and zoning change of 153. 722 acres near Buster Chatham Road, bringing the property within city limits.

Waco purchased the acreage in 2023, but the land had remained in the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction rather than under full municipal control.
