HARISON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A Hallsville man will spend life in prison after a Monday trial revisiting his 2023 killings of a father and son.

Darius Celedra Gates Jr., 29, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Monday for murdering Keyan Jernigan and Duane Jernigan, both of Hallsville, in June 2023.

Keyan, 29, was the son of Duane, 49. Gates' Monday trial was his second; the first ended in a mistrial after what Harrison County First Assistant DA Madison Hood called "inadvertent jury misconduct."Darius Gates(Harrison County Jail)"Our office had to try the case again, and everyone stepped in it [sic] stepped up to help and provide justice for these families," Hood said.
