BEXAR COUNTY, Texas - A man who was previously accused of first-degree murder is guilty on a lesser charge Monday in a Bexar County courtroom, according to the District Attorney's office.

A jury determined Israel Anthony Cortez, 28, killed his friend Robert Neaves, 25, in a fatal 2023 stabbing.

Cortez was sentenced to 40 years in state prison and is guilty of second-degree manslaughter, the DA's office said.
