SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A second skunk found in Smith County tested positive for rabies, according to the Smith County Animal Control and Shelter.

Local officials announced the confirmation in a social media post, noting the second skunk was found in a completely different part of the county."While we understand why people want to know where these cases occur, this second positive skunk was found in a completely different part of the county, nearly as far apart as they could be," wrote a Smith County spokesperson.

The spokesperson said the cases represent the importance of protecting yourself and pets."Rabies in wildlife is not confined to one neighborhood or one side of the county," they continued.
