The Brownwood High School tennis team came up short Thursday in their District 6-4A opener, falling at home to Brock by an 11-8 count.

"We had 8 matches split sets and go to 10-point tiebreaks, and we only won 3 of them," said Brownwood tennis head coach Dalton Hutchins.

"This match could have gone either way, and I'm proud of the way we battled. Playing the toughest team in the district this close at the start of the season should give the team some confidence as we take on everyone else. I'm really proud of the way the Lady Lions led the charge against Brock. They swept girls doubles, and our top 3 girls won singles." Coming out on top for the Lady Lions were the No. 1 doubles duo of Gigi Rodriguez and Jami Patterson (6-3, 6-2 over Armeda and Coleman), the No. 2 tandem of Arely Carrere and Coulter Day (7-5, 6-4 over Conner and Perez), and the No. 3 pairing of Amy Deechaleune and Willow Camp (7-5, 4-6, 10-5 over Ringhausen and Rivas.
