HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A Houston Police Department sergeant told ABC13 that copper wire theft has risen in the city over the last year.

"They're taking (the metal), and it's going right to a scrap yard," HPD Sgt. Bob Carson said.

Carson, who leads HPD's metal theft division, didn't have the exact number of cases being investigated by the department in 2026.
