SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - A home on South Travis Street in Sherman is the site of what owner Felicia Smith calls a "learning pod," operating through Rise Academy three days a week for hands-on learning."A learning pod is going to be for children who are outside the realm of private school or public school. These are students who are typically homeschooled and whose parents work or don't have the education," Smith said.

What qualifies as a learning podSmith said learning pods are for children who are typically homeschooled and meet a couple of times a week so students can socialize and learn from teachers in a semi-structured environment.

She said learning pods can meet in various locations, including homes, libraries, state parks or churches.
