Bangs City Council members Eric Bishop, Danny Marney, Gregory Flores and Mayor Pro Tem Carrol Wells unanimously passed amendments to the 2025-26 budget during Monday night's meeting that will still leave Bangs at an anticipated $576,616. 88 deficit.

The City entered the fiscal year with approximately $1. 2 million at its disposal, and thus far nearly $486,000 has been spent over the revenue, with almost $100,000 more in expenses projected over the final two months of the fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, 2026.

Interim City Administrator Stephanie Jester told those in attendance, "We had X amount in revenue, we had X amount in expenses, and we had $486,000-plus in expenses over what we have brought in as a City in revenue. We only have two months left, and the goal is to get, as best we can, the budget items that are in a deficit covered the best we can. Then we have to start with the new budget coming up." Bishop further explained, stating, "There's various areas where we've just taken a straight line and see there's two more months left and we can expect the same thing as we've been having. Then there's other things that go on such as putting a new roof on the fire station. That roof is an example, the fire hydrants, we knew something was taking place but we didn't know how much it was going to cost. We chased it down and asked 'what do we owe you?' The document that we shared last week, it starts out with a straight line approach, and a straight line of what's been done. For example, the police cars are $47,000, but the straight line was zero because we hadn't made any payments. So if you take zero, divide by eight and multiple by 12, that's still zero, so that's just one thing factored into the long term equation." Wells also revealed the City is currently paying a third-party to assist with the budget as a cost of $3,000 per month.
