7 On Your Side: East Texas veteran scammed out of $1,300, told he was under house arrest

CARTHAGE, Texas (KLTV) - A Navy veteran sent $1,300 to a scammer posing as a Panola County Sheriff's Office investigator, who later told him he was under house arrest.

David Lawless received a phone call on Thursday, Sept. 10, from someone claiming to be an investigator with the Panola County Sheriff's Office.

The man told Lawless he had signed a grand jury summons but never showed up."He had a case number for contempt of court and for failure to appear," Lawless said.
