Texas hunters can look forward to a strong harvest and promising opportunities for quality bucks during the 2026-27 white-tailed deer season, state wildlife officials announced.

Following three consecutive years of above-average fawn survival, the state's white-tailed deer population has grown to an estimated 5. 64 million, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

What they're saying: "Texas leads the nation in terms of number of deer hunters, annual harvest and deer population," said Blaise Korzekwa, TPWD white-tailed deer program leader.
