AUSTIN, Texas - A federal jury in Austin has convicted a man from India for his involvement in a scheme of scamming elderly victims across the country.
The backstory: U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas announced that Bhavesh Kumar Thakkar was convicted on two counts related to wire fraud and money laundering.
Court documents and evidence at the trial show that 45-year-old Thakkar was in the United States on a spousal visa and from at least Sept. 2022 to Sept. 17, 2025, Thakkar conspired in a fraud scheme with Rakesh Barot, Dhruv Rajeshbhai Mangukiya and Kishan Rajeshkumar Patel.
