LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Lufkin ISD could begin converting its primary schools into K-through-5 campuses as early as the 2027-2028 school year, starting with Herty Primary.

The board tasked 15 community members and administrators with developing a plan for K-5 realignment.

The group met twice over the summer and weighed five scenarios against six priorities: student opportunity, staffing, facilities, equity, culture and safety, and sustainability.
