Law enforcement has made arrests in a shooting incident that wounded four people during a community gathering in Crockett last summer. Dakenyon D'Wayne Davis, 26, and Lynndelverick Concepcion Malone, 21, both residents of Nacogdoches, face charges related to the June 13 shooting, according to the Crockett Police Department.

Officers arrived at the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard shortly after 10:20 p.m. that evening following reports of gunshots at a crowded event. The location hosted a large number of attendees and parked vehicles at the time of the incident. Four individuals sustained gunshot injuries, with some remaining in ongoing medical recovery. Investigators concluded that only one of the wounded was a specific target of the shooter, while three others were bystanders caught in the crossfire.

Police determined the shooting resulted from an escalating conflict between two separate groups attending the event. Davis and Malone belonged to a faction from the San Augustine area, while a rival group had come from the Center area. The two sides had existing animosity before gathering that evening. During the event, the San Augustine contingent, which included Davis and Malone, discharged firearms toward the opposing group, striking the unintended victims alongside their intended mark.

Davis was initially apprehended July 3 by U.S. Marshals and the Angelina County Sheriff's Office based on outstanding warrants from San Augustine and Nacogdoches counties involving aggravated assault and marijuana possession charges. Officers discovered multiple firearms in his possession at the time of arrest, prompting additional charges for unlawful firearm possession by a felon and theft of a firearm. He was subsequently transferred to the San Augustine County Jail, where he now faces three counts of aggravated assault and one count of unlawful firearm possession related to the Crockett shooting.

Malone's arrest came later, on Sept. 24, when Nacogdoches police officers took him into custody on a warrant from San Augustine County for firearm theft. Prosecutors charged him with one count of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting incident.

Investigators utilized ballistic evidence, advanced investigative technology, extensive witness interviews and coordination with outside law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend the suspects, according to department officials.
