Big Tex gets new shirt designed by Cavender's ahead of State Fair of Texas

The State Fair of Texas has launched a revamped wardrobe strategy for its iconic 55-foot mascot through a newly formed partnership with Cavender's Boot City, the Dallas-based western apparel retailer.

Rather than replacing Big Tex's shirt entirely every three years, organizers will now refresh the design on an annual basis, incorporating new visual elements that reflect significant moments in the history of the fair, Texas or the United States. The inaugural shirt in this new tradition features a red base accented with navy blue and white detailing, maintaining the Western aesthetic that has long defined the beloved figure.

The partnership marks the first time Cavender's has served as the official western wear provider for Big Tex. The retailer's signature Rafter C angled pearl snap pockets will be incorporated into the garment's construction. Additionally, the western hat brand Resistol is manufacturing a custom 95-gallon cowboy hat to accompany the outfit.

Clay Cavender, representing the boot company, emphasized the cultural alignment between his business and Big Tex. "Nothing says Texas more than Big Tex and Cavender's. Pair that with his pearl snap shirt, how can it be any more Texas than that!" Cavender said in a statement. "It's a match made in heaven! We are proud to be a part of such a great tradition."

Mitchell Glieber, president of the State Fair of Texas, characterized the collaboration as a convergence of two longstanding Texas institutions. "We're establishing a new annual tradition for Big Tex that keeps his iconic Western style fresh while giving us a new story to tell each year," Glieber said.

The State Fair of Texas is scheduled to begin in approximately one month.
