Court documents: 18-year-old's BAC nearly 3 times the legal limit after fatal high-speed crash

An 18-year-old McLennan County resident faces intoxication manslaughter charges stemming from a fatal June collision that claimed the life of another motorist, according to court filings released following his arrest in mid-August.

Cash Lee Stebner was taken into custody on Aug. 13 and charged in connection with the crash that occurred June 13 at the intersection of South Hewitt Drive and Enterprise Boulevard in Hewitt. Court documents allege that Stebner was operating a Mazda sedan when it struck a Chevrolet pickup truck at that location. Both drivers were transported to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, where the pickup operator was pronounced dead.

Investigators determined through crash reconstruction that excessive speed contributed significantly to the collision. Court filings state that Stebner's vehicle was traveling between 88 and 97 mph as the crash began. Accident analysis indicated that impaired driving played a substantial role in both the collision and the resulting fatality.

Blood alcohol testing conducted three hours after Stebner's arrest revealed levels nearly three times higher than the legal threshold for adult drivers. Under Texas law, an 18-year-old is prohibited from operating a vehicle with any measurable amount of alcohol in their system. "Cash Stebner is 18 and so the law states there can be no detectable amount of alcohol in his body," police stated in court documents.

Stebner posted an $80,000 bond and was released from the McLennan County Jail following his booking.
