Man found dead inside Odessa clothing donation box identified

ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - The man found dead inside a clothing donation box in Odessa last week has been identified as 45-year-old Roberto Hernandez. [KTRE]

Police in Odessa say they have identified a man whose remains were discovered inside a textile recycling receptacle last month at an East Side location.

The deceased was identified as Roberto Hernandez, 45, the Odessa Police Department confirmed. Officers responded July 17 to the intersection of East 8th Street and Coleman Avenue after receiving word of a body. Upon arrival, they located Hernandez's remains inside the donation container used for collecting used clothing.

According to police, investigators found no indicators suggesting criminal activity in connection with the death. Authorities notified Hernandez's family members of his death.

A resident living nearby said the area had been marked by an unpleasant smell for several weeks leading up to the police discovery. The neighbor expressed surprise upon learning an adult had been found in the confined space, noting the box's narrow opening seemed too small to accommodate a full-grown person. The resident initially suspected the remains might belong to a youngster.

The investigation has concluded that no evidence of foul play was present at the scene.
