FALLS COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) - A man is in custody following a shooting and a long standoff at a residence along FM Road 147, according to the Falls County Sheriff's Office. [KWTX-TV News 10]
A man remains in custody following an armed incident that prompted an extended negotiation with law enforcement in Falls County late Wednesday night.
Emergency responders arrived at a residence in the 300 block of FM Road 147 shortly after 8 p.m. following a call reporting gunfire at the location. Authorities found a person who had sustained gunshot wounds and transported the individual to a nearby hospital for treatment. The injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, according to law enforcement officials.
The suspect, identified as Joseph Blackwell, barricaded himself inside the home after the shooting, prompting Falls County Sheriff's deputies to establish a perimeter around the property. Sheriff Jason Campbell said negotiators and deputies engaged in a prolonged effort to resolve the standoff peacefully, continuing communications with Blackwell throughout the night.
After several hours of negotiation, Blackwell ultimately chose to surrender to deputies without additional incident. Sheriff Campbell stated that the scene has since been secured and that no further danger exists to residents in the area.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing, with the sheriff's office indicating that additional details will become public as authorities complete their inquiry.
