Moody ISD covers the cost of school supplies

MOODY — Families in Moody Independent School District won't face steep back-to-school supply expenses this year, as the district continues a decade-long commitment to providing all required materials for its students at no cost to parents.

The initiative marks the 10th consecutive year the district has absorbed the cost of school supplies typically required on students' supply lists. Starting on the first day of classes, families need only ensure their children arrive with a backpack. District Superintendent Andrew Miller attributed the program's continuation to the district's priority of easing financial burdens on households as enrollment has grown to approximately 750 students.

Miller emphasized the district's fiscal responsibility in designing the program. By incorporating supply procurement into the annual budget, district leaders aim to support families while making efficient use of taxpayer funds. Beyond the school system's own efforts, local congregations also contribute resources to help families prepare for the academic year.

The district has invested in several capital improvements ahead of the school year. A new career and technical education facility opened last year and now serves as the location for high school coursework this academic term. Elementary students will soon benefit from an enhanced playground featuring a smaller artificial-turf football field designed for recreation and athletic activities.

Academic performance has strengthened across the district in recent years. Miller cited consistent educational gains over the past five years as the school community prepares for another school year. Moody ISD classes are scheduled to begin Aug. 11.
