Big Spring's main swimming facility resumed operations Wednesday after shutting down the previous day for urgent mechanical repairs, city officials said.
The Russ McEwen Family Aquatic Center had been closed Tuesday, July 21, due to equipment malfunctions that required immediate attention. Community Services Director Susan Himes emphasized that the temporary shutdown was essential to maintain safe conditions for visitors during the repair work.
City maintenance crews worked quickly to address the mechanical problems affecting the facility. Officials expressed confidence that the repairs would be completed in time to allow the center to open during standard operating hours the following day.
The center did reopen as projected on Wednesday, returning to its regular schedule. City leaders thanked residents for their understanding during the brief closure and their patience while crews completed the necessary work.
"We're excited to welcome everyone back for a fun day at the pool," Big Spring officials stated in announcing the facility's return to service.
The aquatic center continues to operate during its normal hours, allowing families and swimmers to resume their visits to the popular municipal facility.
