The Phantom of the Opera returns to Fredericksburg on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 426 Main St. The Phantom of the Opera has been in seclusion since 1993, when last seen in four major public performances on the Fredericksburg Middle School campus stage with the music classes of instructor Bobbye Sawatzky.
Every child on the fifth-grade level had an important part in the full-scale Broadway production.
They chose from speaking, dancing, acting, solo singing, choir or orchestra parts and dramatized it with artistic ideas: black light, spotlight, mirrors, a boat in the water, painted gargoyle backdrops, costumes and chandeliers, with dancing and masked skeletons and with song.
