Local officials hopeful after CBP Commissioner visit Kara Gerbert Thu, 08/27/2026 - 14:09 In-page image(s) X Body In a much-anticipated visit from policymakers in Washington, D.C., Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott met with local leaders last week to get a first-hand look at the Big Bend region and what construction of the border wall and other planned infrastructure would disrupt if the current plans were to move forward.

Prior to his visit, Scott ordered an immediate halt to all construction until August 31 that had already surged full force around Santa Elena Canyon and Mariscal Mountain inside Big Bend National Park.

Scott met with local and area stakeholders, including Brewster County Judge Greg Henington and Sheriff Ronny Dodson.
