TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, healthcare workers from CHRISTUS Health visited Bonner Elementary Tuesday to read to students in both English and Spanish.

The visit comes under a growing partnership powered by Texas Senate Bill 18-82, a state law passed in 2017 that allows school districts to team up with universities and nonprofits.

This past April, Tyler ISD approved an 18-22 agreement with the University of Texas at Tyler, turning Bonner Elementary into one of three campuses in Tyler where students have an opportunity to be exposed to real-life careers in biomedical fields while partnering with medical professionals.
