The Fredericksburg High School varsity boys cross country team placed 16th in a very tough Class 5A and 6A division at the San Antonio Friday Night Lights meet last Friday in San Antonio.

"Another successful long Friday for our guys," FHS Coach Jason Roemer said.

"Really proud of the development of our team from last Friday to this Friday. The guys are responding to being thrown into big learning environments. "The freshmen and sophomores are being sponges; our juniors and lone senior are being great role models." FHS had to battle the heat in San Antonio despite a night event. "Night races are tough, night races in the heat of August in a heat bowl are even tougher," Roemer said. "The discipline needed to handle the hydration and nutrition to run at 9:45 p.m. is essential and we handled it really well." There was a large crowd on hand to watch the teams perform at the meet. "We also handled the overwhelming environment of 2,000 people at a soccer complex, we were able to lock in on our warm-up, then able to execute race strategies to perform well," Roemer said. "All experiences we will have to pull back on as the season goes along." Freshman James Trim paced the team with a time of 17:07. 90. "What an infusion the two freshmen (James Trim and Kyle Moellendorf) have brought into our program," Roemer said. "They ran fearlessly and pushed themselves to really good times at this point in their career.
