The New Braunfels National Airport has grown steadily alongside the city since entering the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems in 1969.
Prior to being obtained by the city and designated as a municipal airport, it served as a military training base for decades.
Since then, it has been upgraded from a municipal airport to a regional one, and was reclassified again in 2021 as a national airport.
