A: Doug Welsh in his Texas Garden Almanac lists bougainvillea, crape myrtle, firebush, hardy hibiscus, the "Knock Out" rose, lantana, mandevilla, native salvias, oleander, purslane, and Turk's cap.

I would add a few more plants and include Gold Star Esperanza, Caesalpinia pulcherrima or Pride of Barbados, and periwinkle.
