HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A Hopkins County deputy shot and killed a dog at a home while serving a warrant where investigators later determined the wanted suspect did not live.

The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office announced the shooting after it said a social media post circulated online regarding the dog's death.

The sheriff's office said it was attempting to serve a high-risk felony warrant when a dog pushed past an individual opening a door and lunged at the deputy.
