The Fredericksburg ISD Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed its inaugural Class of 2026 during an induction ceremony Friday, Aug. 28, at the Fredericksburg High School Auditorium.

As part of the recognition of this year's inductees, the Standard-Radio Post has been highlighting members of the class individually.

Chester "Smokey" Klaerner, a 1929 Fredericksburg High School graduate who later coached at FHS during the 1930s and 1940s, occupies a unique place in Fredericksburg High School history as one of the most versatile and accomplished athletes ever produced by the school.
