1 killed, another injured after shooting in northeast Houston, HPD says

A fatal shooting left one person dead and another injured Friday evening in northeast Houston, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred in the 5100 block of Mesa Drive, with emergency responders arriving at the scene around 5:23 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire involving multiple individuals. However, upon investigation, authorities determined that only two people had been struck by bullets in the altercation.
A male victim was pronounced dead at the location. A second person sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The Houston Police Department did not release identities for either victim as of late Friday evening.
Homicide investigators from the Houston Police Department took over the investigation and remained on scene into the evening hours, gathering evidence and conducting preliminary interviews. The circumstances surrounding the shooting—including what may have sparked the violence or any possible suspects—had not been disclosed by authorities.
Police provided limited additional details about the incident as the investigation remained active. Department officials indicated more information would be made available as their examination of the case progressed.
