Brothers backing car into driveway fatally shot by 'ticking time bomb' neighbor, sheriff says

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas (Gray News) - Authorities in Texas say two brothers were fatally shot while backing a car into their driveway by a neighbor the sheriff described as a "ticking time bomb."Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says the brothers [CBS7]
A man accused of fatally shooting two young neighbors in Bexar County has been arrested and charged with capital murder following what investigators describe as an unprovoked attack that also targeted additional family members.
The incident occurred Tuesday evening around 7:30 p.m. when 11-year-old Maliki Perales and 20-year-old Dravyn Quiroz were reversing their vehicle into their residential driveway. According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, a neighbor ran across the street and discharged a firearm at the youths multiple times. Both victims sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital.
Authorities identified the suspect as 40-year-old Daniel Antonio Perez, a resident living directly across the street from the victims' home. According to Salazar, two additional siblings of the deceased brothers emerged from the residence to investigate the disturbance and were also shot at by Perez, though they escaped injury. Following the shooting, Perez departed the area but was apprehended within approximately 10 minutes. Law enforcement recovered the weapon used in the attack from a nearby drainage culvert.
Salazar characterized the shooting as entirely without provocation. He indicated that Perez's relatives disclosed to investigators that the suspect had previously experienced mental health emergencies, though those concerns were never reported to police authorities.
"It's an extremely unfortunate situation for the family that just simply fell victim to this guy. Unbeknownst to them, they had what I would believe and categorize as a ticking time bomb right across the street from them," Salazar stated.
Perez has been charged with two counts of capital murder in connection with the deaths and multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for shots fired at the other family members. His bail has been established at $2.3 million, with a scheduled court appearance in November.
