Montgomery County Sheriff's Office mourns detention officer killed in Austin County motorcycle crash

A 21-year-old detention officer with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office died Saturday in a two-vehicle motorcycle collision in Austin County, authorities said.

Anon Vaughn Hoffman was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when it struck a Volkswagen Atlas near the intersection of Farm Roads 2502 and 2754 around 1:05 p.m., according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Hoffman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Atlas driver and a 17-year-old passenger were transported to a hospital for evaluation but reported no injuries.

Hoffman had worked as a detention officer for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office for two years. Beyond his professional role, his connection to the agency ran deeper — his father, Eric Hoffman, serves as a sergeant with the office, and his mother, Emma Hoffman, works in the Central Jail Records Division.

Sheriff Wesley Doolittle released a statement expressing the personal nature of the loss. "Eric and Emma are more than friends and colleagues to me; they are family," Doolittle said. "To lose Anon, such a great young man, breaks my heart."

The sheriff emphasized Hoffman's dedication to his work and the impact of his absence on the agency. "Anon was a beloved member of our office, and I am incredibly proud of the service he gave to this community," Doolittle said. "His loss will be felt deeply throughout our entire agency."

Doolittle met with Hoffman's family following the crash. The sheriff's office asked the public to keep the family, friends and colleagues in their thoughts during the grieving process, noting that Hoffman was particularly cherished among the detention officers and shift mates who worked with him daily.
