Nacogdoches police investigating fatal shooting

A 76-year-old Nacogdoches man was found slain in his home Saturday morning following reports of gunfire in the area, authorities said.

The Nacogdoches Police Department responded to the 1000 block of West Seale Street at approximately 5:06 a.m. after receiving calls about shots fired and a person struck by gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered Candelario Castaneda-Almaraz deceased in the doorway of his residence.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear as of Saturday. Police have not identified any suspect in connection with the death, according to department statements released following the discovery.

Investigators continued gathering evidence and pursuing leads as the case developed. Officials said additional details would be disclosed as the probe advances and information becomes available to release publicly.
