Round Rock police are investigating a shooting early Thursday morning that resulted in one fatality and left two others requiring emergency medical care. The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. in the 2800 block of Phoenix Way near Gattis School Road when officers responded to a domestic violence emergency.

Officers arrived to find a woman who had fled her residence with critical stab wounds. She informed police that her husband remained inside the home along with another person believed to be responsible for the attack. The situation presented an immediate threat to those in the dwelling, prompting law enforcement to take swift action.

Police forced their way into the residence, where they encountered a male wielding a knife. During the confrontation, an officer discharged his firearm at the armed suspect. Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks described the circumstances at a subsequent news conference, saying: "The officers then, at that point, kicked in the door. Once they kicked in the door, they encountered a male subject with a knife. One officer did discharge his firearm at the suspect with the knife."

Emergency responders provided medical treatment to the suspect at the scene. Officers also discovered a second male inside the home who had sustained multiple stab wounds. Both casualties were transported to medical facilities in critical condition.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment but did not survive. Chief Banks confirmed that medical care was administered immediately following the officer-involved shooting.
