HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A knife-wielding patient in the emergency room of a hospital was shot and killed after struggling with security guards on Saturday evening, investigators said, adding that the incident will be referred to a grand jury.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to the shooting at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center on Gessner Road at about 8:55 p.m. Investigators said the 31-year-old man, who was experiencing a mental health crisis, was admitted to the hospital and taken to a secluded room in the back of the emergency room at around 6 p.m. HPD said the man then presented a knife and refused to put it down, according to hospital security.
