KILGORE, Texas (KLTV) - Region 7 Education Service Center's annual Dyslexia Awareness Day began Wednesday, welcoming hundreds of students across East Texas to celebrate their potential and build confidence in the classroom.

The event, held each October in recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month, is designed to help students understand that having dyslexia does not limit their ability to succeed."It is a way to help us help our students who are dyslexic understand that just because they have dyslexia, yes, it makes reading, spelling harder, but it doesn't limit them as far as their potential in life," said Angela Venters with Region 7 ESC.

"We want them to leave today feeling proud, feeling like they can achieve and accomplish anything they set their minds to, because it doesn't define their outcome in life."Annual event expands to two days, serving hundreds of students from dozens of area districts(Michael Richardson)Understanding dyslexia and early interventionDyslexia is a language processing disability that affects reading, spelling, writing and fluency, rather than a visual processing issue, Venters said.
