(KGNS) - 15 female officers with the Laredo Police Department volunteered with Habitat for Humanity on their day off to build a shed for a home in the Cielito Lindo subdivision.

The project took place on National Women's Police Day.

Sgt. Noemi Cienfuegos, Laredo Police Department, said the officers built the shed's frame after starting with only a cement slab."We did help out with the shed. It was literally just a cement slab, so we actually built like the whole outside frame of the shed, which was awesome. It was a way to connect with the female officers... We felt the heat that day, but we knew that it was a little sacrifice that we uh could do to give back to the community," Cienfuegos said.
