GRIMES COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) - Texas remains No. 1 in semiconductor chip manufacturing, and as SpaceX continues clearing land for its Terafab facility, new jobs are coming with it.

So how can people best prepare to land one of those jobs?Clayton Huber, director of workforce development at the Texas A&M Semiconductor Institute, says fabs like Terafab typically split new job creation roughly evenly between two types of roles."When we look at new job creation for a fab, we're looking at around 50-50 for technicians and engineers, and so that's a really big need and a really big demand," Huber said.

Dr. Arum Han, associate dean for research at the Texas A&M College of Engineering, says that means roughly half the jobs won't require a four-year degree."They need electricians, they need people who have knowledge in piping, they need people who are knowledgeable in chemical safety," Han said.
